- The Capital City Camera Club provides a collaborative environment where enthusiasts and professionals alike can develop their skills and broaden their understanding of photography. To maximize the benefits for its members, the club implements various activities that focus on skill enhancement, creativity, and technical knowledge.
- The club meets twice monthly. Many club meetings include an outside presenter discussing a topic relevant to members. Such topics might cover field techniques, details of shooting locations, review of a photographs on a specific topic, post-processing techniques and other issues of interest to club members. The club also uses specific activities to encourage skill improvement:
- Mentor program - A number of members volunteer to provide mentoring activity to club members. This mentoring is open format so any photography topic is allowed. Sessions may be one-on-one or with groups. More information will be found on this page.
- Technical Seminars - One or two formal seminars with recognized professionals will be presented each year. These sessions are usually fee-based.
- Field Trip - Plan trips to interesting locations where members can practice shooting in new environments.
- Regular Critique Sessions - Scheduled sessions where members can present their work and receive constructive feedback from peers and professionals.
- Anonymous Competitions - A number of formal anonymous competitions are held each year in which a professional judge evaluates printed photographs.
- Monthly Contests - Regular monthly competitions are held with specific themes or challenges to motivate members and foster improvement. Members evaluate these digital images.
- Exhibitions - Provide opportunities for members to display their work in public exhibitions.
- Photographer of the year - This award is determined based upon the results of the print and monthly competitions and is presented at the annual dinner meeting in December of each year.
